On May 21, 2020, Governor DeWine released the Responsible RestartOhio Guidelines specific to Skills Training for All Sports.  We are excited about this opportunity; however, want to stress to everyone the importance of complying with the Responsible Restart Guidelines.  While other states around us may be reopening or returning to play before Ohio, it is important we do our part in mitigating the spread of COVID-19 to other areas of the country.

US Youth Soccer Recommendations to Minimize Negative Financial Impact

  • Programming: Shift program calendars as needed while maintaining the number of activities, offer online programming including coaching, instruction, one-on-one video calls, team calls, etc.
  • Parent Education: Share team/club/league financials, be transparent, show a pie chart of revenue/expense ratios, show resources and programming.
  • Offer Credits to Families: Offer credits for summer training sessions, future season and/or future travel, amortize credits across future seasons, offer multi-member family discounts, etc.
  • Charitable Giving: Explore fundraising options, determine 501c3 organization qualifications (paid fees could be considered charitable donations should services not be rendered and thus deductible from individual 2020 tax returns; organizations and their members should check with their tax preparer for more details and compliance with Federal and State tax laws).
  • Offer Discounts: Offer members pre-paid seasons or coaching services for XY% off, apply Spring fees to a Fall % off.
  • Schedule Refunds: Consider a 60-day window for full refunds, offer a multi-season approach to refunds and amortize over the year, provide partial refunds for partial programming.
  • Collaboration: Work with your nearby programs / communities to share costs / assets / projects, idea-sharing, event planning, etc.
  • Investigate Government Resources: US Youth Soccer has compiled a resource page with links to State and Federal resources | USYS Resource Page
