Ohio North is excited to announce the new Northern Conference which will kick-off with the 2020-2021 seasonal year for 9U-19U teams. The Northern Conference, an expansion and restructure of the former State League, will implement a complete player development and competitive pathway.

Ohio North recommends the following guidelines when determining your Division of play:

  • Blue Division: Team-based seasonal year application and commitment for Premier level teams.
  • White Division: Team-based declaration per season for Competitive level teams.
  • Red Division: Team-based declaration per season for Community level teams.

Game Day Information

Game Day Information 

Game Day Rosters

In lieu of player passes, only printed Game Day Rosters must be used for conference games. Coaches may NOT write, type or print anything additional on a Game Day Roster after it has been printed. Exception, for tracing purposes coaches can be added or crossed off the roster. Players name may NOT be manually added to a Game Day Roster after it has been printed. Players who will not be in attendance may be crossed out on the Game Day Roster. They cannot be added. It is advised that you wait until you are sure of your roster before printing it, or print the entire roster if you do not have more players rostered than may appear at a conference game. 

All team officials must carry a current US Youth Soccer/Ohio North laminated member pass to be on the sideline. All team officials must comply with Participant Safety Program, including being Safe Sport, Concussion and Lindsay's Law certified. 

Instructions: To comply with COVID-19 Protocols, the HOME TEAM will supply the Game Day Roster for each game. One (1) coach from each team will meet in the center circle prior to kick-off, remaining socially distant, to remit payment to referees in the exact requested amount (reference the above fee schedule) as well as confirm participating players and cross-off non-participating players and team officials from the Game Day Roster. 

Scores & Post-Game Reporting

All scores are to be submitted within 72 hours (3 days) from the completion of the game. The WINNING team is responsible for entering the game score. In the event of a tie, the HOME team becomes responsible. 

To report a game score

  • The WINNING team or in the event of a tie the HOME team will collect the signed Game Day Roster from the referee after the completion of the game. 
  • The WINNING team or in the even of a tie, the HOME team will submit the score and copy of the signed Game Day Roster and League Roster (with participating player) via online form [HERE].
  • The score will not be entered until all information and rosters have been submitted. 

Inclement Weather/Game Cancellations

Each complex and/or HOSTING team is responsible for notifying the league of field closures due to inclement weather as soon as a decision is made to close. If you complex closes, please make sure to follow the below steps so that all parties are notified of the cancelled games. 

  • Notify the opposing team of the cancellation and if you know your referee assignor, notify them as well. 
  • Call or text Ohio North cell phone at 440-584-0090 to notify us of the cancelled game
  • Email with the game number and originally scheduled date and note that this game will be rescheduled due to inclement weather
  • Begin rescheduling with opposing team

All reschedules must be completed within 72 hours (3 business days) of the cancelled game. 

Rescheduling Games

Game Reschedules 

Per the Northern Conference Program Rules, teams are permitted to change current game site, date and/or time, provided that such change is made more than three (3) days prior to a scheduled game. Games proposed and approved three (3) or fewer days before the scheduled game will be assessed a $75 fee to be charged to the team/club requesting the change. To request a game change, the following procedures must be met:  

  1. The team requesting to make the change contacts its opponent. Opponent must mutually agree on the game change in order for the change to be approved. 
  2. Once both teams mutually agree, the requesting team must complete the online form [HERE].
  3. Northern Conference confirms the change by posting the revised game on the league scheduling system.
  4. Home (host) team contacts local referee assignor with the change(s) at least three (3) days prior to the original game date. Also, referee assignors are to be advised a minimum three (3) days prior to the date of a rescheduled game or they are not required to fulfill the request for referees. 

Game Reschedules within 24 hours

Unless there is inclement weather or a field is deemed unplayable, a game CANNOT be rescheduled within 24hours. If a team is unable to play the game as scheduled and it is less than 24hours to kickoff, the game will be considered a forfeit. The team will be assessed with a forfeit fee plus referee fees assessed to both teams/clubs. (See Forfeit Section)

Games Not Played As Scheduled

Games not played as scheduled, or games that are rescheduled without the prior knowledge and consent of the Conference Administrator, will result in forfeit(s) for the teams as well as fees at least equal to the reschedule fee plus referee fees assessed to both teams/clubs.

Any team(s) who forfeits games shall have their continued status in the Northern Conference reviewed prior to being permitted to register/affiliate for future season(s). 


A club or team that forfeits a Northern Conference game shall be fined.

  1. First Offense: $200 forfeited game fee plus referee fees
  2. Second Offense: $250 forfeited game fee plus referee fees
  3. Third Offense: Team(s) being dropped from the Northern Conference

Coaches Committee

The Northern Conference Coaches Committee is an advisory group consisting of Directors of Coaching and/or Designees from various clubs within all divisions of the Conference. The purpose of this Committee is to provide guidance in the development and growth of the Conference.

Q: Why are there Divisions colors instead of levels of play?
A: Many of our clubs already utilize colors to distinguish their levels of play. Additionally, these colors model the US Youth Soccer Great Lakes Conference designations to provide continuity along the pathway.  

  • Blue Division: Premier level teams
  • White Division: Competitive level teams
  • Red Division: Community level teams

Q: How does "club passing" players work between the different Divisions?
A: Players may only be rostered to ONE team in the Conference. Any player registered in the club to a Conference team is eligible to club pass for another team in the SAME club, provided the player is age appropriate and adheres to the following player pool guidelines in order to provide club flexibility in how they challenge and develop their players.

  • Blue Division: Player pool flexibility TBA
  • White Division: Player pool flexibility TBA
  • Red Division: Player pool flexibility TBA  

Q: Will there be promotion and relegation between the Divisions between seasons? 
A: That is dependent on each Division.

  • Blue Division: Is an application based year long commitment and is reviewed after the playing year has concluded. 
  • White Division: Yes, in age groups that have multiple tiers there will be promotion and relegation. 
  • Red Divisions: Determined by each sub-conference. 

Q: How much travel will team(s) have?
That is dependent on each Division. 

  • Blue Division: Requires travel throughout Northern Ohio. 
  • White Division: Requires travel throughout Northern Ohio; however the Conference will assist with neutral venues and/or double-headers as requested. 
  • Red Division: Geographically based Divisions where possible with an average of a 60-mile travel radius for all teams. The Conference will assist with scheduling should travel exceed the radius. 

Q: When will the Procedures and Rules be posted?
We anticipate positing both the Conference Procedures and Rules by the beginning of June after we have appointed our Coaches Committee so that they have the ability to review and make recommendations. 

Q: How many games will teams get during a season?
A: Games are predicated on the number of registered teams within a Division. Each Division will get a minimum of six (6) games. 

Q: What are the application requirements for the Blue Division?
A: The application will be available after June 15th. 

Q: What happens if our application is rejected from the Blue Division?
A: We will reach out to you prior to posting the Divisions and will recommend that you participate in the White Division. All teams will have the ability to re-apply the following seasonal year. 

Q: What if we have two (2) teams we want to enter into age group. 
A: Clubs must consult with Ohio North if they want to enter more than two (2) teams in an age group so we can ensure proper placement of each team. 

Q: What if there are not enough teams that register for my Age Group/Division?
A: We will reach out to registered teams to provide a solution. This may result in combining Age Groups and/or Divisions or recommending another Ohio North member league. Team(s) are not obligated to accept their new placement if it isn't a good fit for their team/club development. 

Q: If my team opts not to participate in the Conference, do we get our fee(s) back?
 Any team that does not accept their preliminary spot or are unable to field a team in that Age Group/Division before Divisions are finalized may be refunded their Declaration Fee.

Q: Who is responsible for securing the field and paying referees?
A: The HOME team is responsible for securing and remitting payment for the field unless the teams have mutually requested a neutral venue, the teams will split the field costs for the scheduled game. The referee payment is split between the two participating teams. 

Q: Do Team Fees include referee and facility costs?
A: No, the Team Fees does not include referee and facility costs. 

Q: What will the levels of play be for the new integrated State League that will be announced on May 8th?
A: The new integrated State League is intended for Premier and First Division teams. 

Q: What other league options do we have?
A: Your club and/or teams may be better served by our existing member playing leagues for the 2020-2021 seasonal year.

Ohio North will be using the new Demosphere system to roster and card Northern Conference players and teams for the 2020-2021 seasonal year. This is not just a registration system, but a compliance management system. Demosphere is a technology-first company and will have full-integration with Ohio North, state, and federal compliance, including background screening and participant safety requirements. This investment will assist, you, our members in making administrative processes better, especially for those of you who participate in multiple pathways between the Northern Conference, OSSL and GLC for greater player pool flexibility and convenience.
